Week One Sampling Unit; Embroidery

I have just finished my first week of the Sampling Unit; Embroidery. I have enjoyed experimenting through this rotation as I have began translating my visual research through stitch.

The week began with creating influenced collaged pieces which had reference from my initial drawings. I personally feel that these collaged pieces have become a starting point for my first weeks sampling as I have been very expressive with creating texture and documenting with a fluent approach.

Thursday was the most productive day of the week. Learning hand embroidery techniques was great as I could develop my samples further. I spent till 8:45pm in the art building creating 6-8 free-machine/hand stitched incorporated samples which reference my initial drawings. I felt like this was the day where I felt in control with the machine and I was able to freely draw with the free machine foot itself.

Incorporating hand stitch techniques on free machine samples meant that I have been able to develop a number of samples which define texture through mediums.

During my second week, I am going to focus on sampling to create detailed texture within materials. I am hoping to work towards a strong colour palette which strongly references my initial colour palette with evident influence of crystalisation.
