Data, Collections and Lists; Visual Research Week

During this week I have started to develop visual research for the new sampling unit; Data, Collections and Lists. Manchester Museum was my initial starting point, I have only lived in Manchester for three months and so I am new to the surroundings around me. In relation to the unit, I began my journey to the museum collecting data and documenting a photographic collection of street art/ advertisements/ interesting architecture and also street signs.

I was presently surprised with how many collections the museum holds, I couldn't justify picking a particular collection and so I photographed the collections in which I found interesting. The data I photographed include shells, the tiled floors, architectural building itself- the stairs and balcony within the museum and also the large collection of meteorites, crystals and rocks displayed in the cabinets of space.

After visiting the museum, I went home and spent the evening drawing the data I had collated, picking out particular collections that I would like to work with further. Texture is something which is expressed in each photograph I took, I began exploring creating texture using pencil and paper.

Throughout the week, I also visited the Visual Resource Gallery and the Holden Gallery, both the visits will help develop my project as they both seem to have an importance with Data, Collections and Lists.
I would like to develop further detailed responses from the data collected from the museum using water colours during the weekend.
