Deryn Relph is a contextual designer who I am immediately drawn to.
Her work is full of energy, positivity, vibrancy and a professional colour palette. I pay attention to detail in my design and textile work, when reflecting my work I immediately see a strong sense of colour and this is why Deryn Relph is an important influence. When relating Relph’s work to my ‘Origins’ project, it is clear that she works closely with the shapes and structuring of her interior pieces. As I am currently working in a 3D sculptural way, it is good to be able to look at other designers work and see how they incorporate 3D into their own. Relph light shades are very sculptural, in one particular design you can see she has folded her materials and experimented to create a circular shade. I have samples where I have folded paper to create texture and a range of shapes, and I am going to continue experimenting introducing a range of materials to develop my 3D sculpture samples.
